Obituary

Connelly, Mary Elizabeth – 79, passed away March 18, 2010 in comfort and peace surrounded by her family, friends and the wonderful staff at BayCare Alliant Hospital. She was born December 20, 1930 in Newark, New Jersey to Albert and Elizabeth Scully, the first of their five children. She enjoyed a childhood with her family, spending summers on the Jersey Shore, where her Family operated an Inn at the beach. In 1953, she married her high school sweetheart, James Anthony Connelly Jr., in Nutley, New Jersey. Shortly thereafter, they began their family, having seven children in eight years. They moved often, residing in Nutley, New Jersey, Buffalo, New York and Chevy Chase, Maryland to keep up with Jim’s career at Aetna Life & Casualty. Then in 1969 Jim, an Executive with Aetna, was promoted to run the state of Florida and this became their last stop, as they then set their roots in Belleair, Florida. They quickly became fixtures in the community while attending various school and sporting events as they followed their seven children’s various activities. In 1983, her husband, Jim, lost his five year battle with cancer. At that time, Mary focused the remainder of her life on being a mother, grandmother and friend to all in the community. She was a long time member of St. Cecelia Catholic Church, the Belleair Country Club and a board member and volunteer for the Hunter Blood Foundation. Second to her love of family, was her countless hours spent in her garden and entertaining her family at numerous family outings at her beach house on Indian Shores. She will be most remembered as a loving mother, grandmother and friend to everyone she met. As her life exhibited, she always said, “All I ever wanted to be was a mother.” She exceeded her expectations, she was the best mother. Survived by 2 sons, John P. (Marilyn) Connelly and  Kevin J. (Charlene) Connelly ; 5 daughters, Patricia A. (Steve) Conn, Kathleen A. (Gordon) Moore, Maureen A. Connelly, Mary Beth (Robert) Fritz; Margaret E. (Alex) Truluck; a sister, Patricia Wilkison; 3 brothers, Albert Scully, Robert Scully, and Thomas Scully; 13 grandchildren, Erin, Courtney, Sheppard, Kaley, Caroline, Cameron, Jimmie, Marianne, Robbie, Shelby, Madison, Sean and Corey.
