Archpriest Laurence Girard, an Orthodox priest of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia (ROCOR), reposed in the Lord on January 13, 2012. Since I had the privilege of knowing Fr. Laurence for the last few years, I received a call from his son as his health began to fail. He asked me to come visit him for the last time. As I arrived at his home in Clearwater, I was greeted by two other Orthodox priests and his family. After we finished praying for him, I referred the family to Hubbell Funeral Home. I had already informed Jerry Hubbell about the situation so he was prepared to assist the family.
As an Orthodox priest, Fr. Laurence's arrangements would pose some challenges for any funeral home. For instance, a simple, wodden casket was required. Jerry Hubbell took the initiative and found a perfect one for Fr. Laurence. Jerry and his staff were extremely professional, courteous, and helpful. They were very respectful and took the time and effort to learn our traditions and customs.
I want to take this opportunity to thank Hubbell Funeral Home for the respect, care, and honor they showed my friend and brother Archpriest Laurence. Many thanks also to Fr. Andrey Kovalev of St. Gregory the Theologian Orthodox Church in Tampa.
